Registration for IMER Junior Scholars Network Workshop “Marginalisation in Contemporary Global Capitalism”

We’re thrilled to invite you to an engaging one-day workshop on Marginalisation in Contemporary Global Capitalism. This event is arranged to bring together junior researchers interested in the intersections of migration, race, racism, and postcolonial theory. The day will kick off with two inspirational lectures by Neferti Xina Tadiar and Sayaka Osanami Törngren. These sessions will set the stage for our discussions and provide a rich backdrop for the following research presentations.

Throughout the day, you’ll have the chance to present your work in progress and receive valuable feedback from your peers in smaller groups. It’s an opportunity to dive into discussions about your research and explore how interdisciplinary perspectives can enrich our understanding of pressing social issues. To wrap up, we’ll hold roundtable discussions where participants can share insights and tackle common themes, diving deep into methodological and theoretical considerations that shape our fields.

This workshop is perfect for PhD students, postdoctoral researchers, and other junior scholars passionate about migration, social justice, and critical race studies. We hope you can join us for a day of collaboration, inspiration, and lively discussions!

Schedule of the day:
9:30-10:00: Coffee and mingle.
10:00-12:00: Introductory Session: The workshop will open with presentations of critical theories and research perspectives from Neferti Tadiar and Sayaka Osanami Törngren, setting the stage for participants’ papers. (Abstracts TBA).
12:00-13:00: Lunch
13:00-15:00: Presentations and Feedback: Each participant will present their work in progress in smaller groups for 10–15 minutes, followed by 10 minutes of peer feedback.
15:00-16:00: Roundtable Discussions: Participants will discuss common themes and challenges, focusing on methodological and theoretical considerations.

Note: We have limited funds to support travel expenses for PhDs and scholars lacking funding. Please reach out to Sarah and Shahab if you need this!
